At Impact Travel Group we recognise that travel has both value and environmental impact. We are committed to understanding, reducing and taking responsibility for the role we play. We will be open about what we know. We will be honest about what we don’t know.
We do not present travel as inherently sustainable. Instead we focus on making informed decisions, improving over time and communicating transparently about what we can and cannot yet achieve.
The Reality of Travel
Travel can support livelihoods, strengthen communities and create meaningful learning experiences. It also contributes to climate change, particularly through aviation.
Many of the journeys we facilitate involve long-distance flights. We do not minimise this impact.
Rather than ignoring it we believe travel should be:
- Intentional – undertaken with purpose
- Responsible – designed to promote positive impact
- Valuable – delivering benefits beyond the individual traveller
Our Approach
We focus on practical, evidence-based action:
- Measure – improving how we understand emissions across our operations and programmes
- Reduce – taking steps to lower our environmental impact wherever possible
- Educate – helping travellers and partners make more informed choices
- Regenerate – supporting initiatives that strengthen environments and communities
We prioritise reducing emissions over compensating for them.
Why We Don’t Use Carbon Offsetting
We do not rely on carbon offsetting.
While offsetting is often used to balance emissions it can be difficult to guarantee real, immediate and lasting impact. There is also a risk that it diverts attention from the need to reduce emissions in the first place.
Our focus is on:
- Avoiding unnecessary emissions
- Reducing emissions where we can
- Improving how we operate over time
It is a more honest approach. And it is the right one.
The Value of Travel
A core part of our work is creating life-defining journeys.
When done thoughtfully these experiences can:
- Build understanding of global challenges
- Encourage reflection and personal responsibility
- Support the development of globally aware individuals
Travel alone is not a solution to climate change. However it can influence how people think and act long after their journey has ended.
Our Commitments
We are working towards:
- Reducing our emissions over time with a focus on this decade
- Aligning with global climate goals including net zero by 2050
- Improving how we measure and report our impact
- Being transparent about progress and challenges
A Shared Responsibility
Climate action is a shared effort.
We work with our travellers, teams and partners to encourage more responsible choices and support better practices across our network.
We are committed to continuing this work. Practically, openly and with a willingness to improve.
